Our Health Ministry is an intentional ministry that encourages health awareness and personal responsibility for wellness conceived of and delivered in the context of Christian faith. Its focus is to keep people well by empowering and educating them to care for themselves.
Parish nursing combines the knowledge and skills of nursing practice with an understanding of the spiritual and religious beliefs that underlie health. Parish nurses, with one foot in the spiritual world of the church and one foot in
the physical world of medicine, minister in ways that reunite the mind, body and spirit, addressing and embracing the relationship between the visible and the invisible. (http://www.episcopalhealthministries.org/resources/tags/health-ministry-basics)
The congregation in health ministry is lead by a parish nurse who is a Registered nurse with over 38 years experience. As the parish nurse she assesses health needs, teaches, refers to services in the community, and counsels regarding health related concerns. She works closely with other nurses and health professionals in the health ministry who are also in the congregation. There is no "hands-on nursing".
To minister to the congregation and community by promoting health and wellness through programs of advocacy, education & support.
